An Intervenor is professionally trained
to provide auditory and visual information to persons
who are Deaf-Blind.
Acting as the eyes and ears, the Intervenor
provides complete information of the environment and surrounding
circumstances to the person who is Deaf-Blind who is unable
to attain this information for him/herself because of
the dual sensory loss.
An Intervenor also acts as an interpreter-guide.
Using various modes of communication, an Intervenor provides
opportunities for persons who are Deaf-Blind to gain independence,
pursue his/her goals, have control over his/her life and
interact with his/her environment.

| Scheduling
of Intervenor Services |
|
|
 |

Tenants are able to request Intervenor
Services from 8:00 am to 12:00 am on a regular basis. If
service is required outside of these times, some accommodations
can be made.
Tenants decide on the times they would like
an Intervenor for and submit a request bi-weekly to the
Intervenor Services Manager who then co-ordinates a schedule
based on tenant need and Intervenor availability. Day to
day changes are made to the schedule for unexpected circumstances
in which an Intervenor is required.

RCH currently employs full and part-time
Intervenors - all of whom can effectively communicate with
the Tenants.
There is a good balance in the skills and interests
of the Intervenors. While some may be professionally trained
Interpreters, others may have a background in recreational
education.
It is important that Intervenors have a strong
awareness and understanding of Deaf-Blindness, and the ability
to promote Tenant independence.
